You must follow a 4-step process to become a member of Forestwood Co-op. As we are a co-operative, we do not "rent" units, we accept applicants as members.

Attending an orientation meeting

You are invited to attend an orientation. This is an information session which will inform you all about our co-op and how it works. Being a member of a co-op includes being active on committees and taking part in the decision making on many different issues.

Anyone in your household who is 16 years and older must attend an orientation before moving on to the next step.

Orientations are held approximately 3-4 times per year. They are conducted by staff persons and volunteer members of Forestwood Co-op.

If you are not able to arrive on time, please do not call the office as there are no staff people to take your calls on Saturdays. It is very important to arrive on time. If you are late you will not be admitted to the orientation.

Submitting an application form

After the orientation, you will be given the opportunity to fill out an application form. You may fill this out on the spot, or take it home and return it to the office when completed. Please make sure to include all information on the application.

Attending the interview

After you have submitted your application, you will be called to attend an interview. Again, all household members 16 years and older must attend the interview as they will be applying for membership. Although children under 16 years old are not required to attend the orientation or interview, we welcome all to attend as it is informative for all family members. After you interview, your application is processed by staff, a credit check, income verification and reference checks are done. If your application is incomplete, it may delay the process while we contact you to provide the missing information.

Application review and notification of final decision

Once the interview and reference checks are done, your application will be reviewed by the membership committee. This committee meets once a month. The group will discuss your interview and will decide on a recommendation to the Board of Directors. The final step in the application process is a Board of Director's review of the recommendations made by the membership committee. Upon the Board's decision, the Forestwood staff will notify you of their final decision.
